Foggy mind tonight. No matter. Just finished the last episode of The Expanse, which, excuse me Star Trek, is the best pure science fiction ever on television. This show is really complex. The story is based on three books, which I will never get around to reading. Someday, I might watch the series again, though I doubt it. I missed so much of the detail that it’s a temptation.

I just finished the sixth and final season of the most thoughtful and the most complex science fiction series ever on television, “The Expanse.” It is shown on Amazon Prime. You will be confused, interested, and engaged by the ongoing story. When I said it is complex, I implied that I didn’t catch the significance of every detail. No matter. The scope of the series is so broad that you will be swept along with the story’s themes. Details matter, but not at the expense of enjoyment. Don’t expect the three R’s, robots, rockets, and ray-guns, to be the focus of the show. People are the focus, as in any great story. The characters in “The Expanse” never come across as anything but real. No Hollywood here. Just good writing.

Started an Aaron Sorkin series. It’s well past his burn out after West Wing. It reminds me of Howard Hawks, the rapid-fire dialogue interplay between characters. I hit the replay-the-last-ten-seconds button many times to catch the implications of what was just said. Several of the monologues are quotable.

Watching movies now is like watching short stories. A series is preferable. Development is where it’s at. This is true of, yes, any series, even the bad ones. Movies are small, enjoyable nuggets. A thought, a concept that must be resolved in one-and-a-half to two hours. A series? Take your time but keep it going.

My new bag is to get a hand drum. Beautiful sound. $550. Will have to save $100 a month for a while. It’s something I’ve wanted since I saw/heard it in a forgotten movie a few years ago. It is played with the hands. Other versions are played with sticks, mallets, but I am good with my hands so this is my choice.

Not much of note today beyond some further consideration of phases. Listening to comments about Brahms in a contemporary setting. Another phase. Brahms. He’s great. And, now looking back, he was only around for a few decades. But at the time, he was everything to those who listened to his music while he lived. Am I everything while I live? My memories encompass all phases, even predating my birth, while I live. They make up the decor of my life. I could wonder what makes up the rest. Thoughts, creative efforts. Hopefully these go beyond the decor.

Time to fog out.
